Over 50 participants gathered in Cochecton, NY, from May 20 - 25, 2009, for the second annual Discovering the Dharma retreat, led by H E Trungram Gyaltrul Rinpoche. Students traveled from near and far, including Boston, New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Indianapolis, Seattle, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, Miami and Taiwan.
Rinpoche wrote a letter to students, friends and supporters in May, 2009 about recent progress of the Mahamudra Hermitage Project. Here is the full text we would like to share with our readers:
The five day retreat this May was an unforgettable time – five days together with Rinpoche and Khenchen Rinpoche in the simple yet freshly transformed UTBF Retreat Center in Cochecton, New York, under the northern spring sun. From May 23 to 28, 2008, the first ever group retreat in the U.S. under Rinpoche's direct guidance took place.
On July 7, 2006, Rinpoche led the ground breaking ceremony of the Lumbini Udyana Mahachaitya (LUM) project inside the United Nation's World Heritage Site, Lumbini, Nepal. Preliminary construction work commenced in early September. LUM is part of the Lumbini Development Project under the auspices and protection of the United Nations. Upon finishing his studies and receiving the PhD in Indo-Tibetan Buddhism with concentration on comparative studies from Harvard University last November, Rinpoche started his intensive teaching schedules. As predicted by the Sixteenth Karmapa, the Fourth Trungram Gyaltrul Rinpoche has students and Dharma friends residing all over the world.
